Best Tech Gadgets To Work From Home

Best Tech Gadgets To Work From Home

Best Tech Gadgets To Work From Home

Cool Desk Gadgets

You can work from home with just a laptop, an internet connection, and a will to succeed. But why scrub it when you can work from home like the boss you are!

Invest in some basic tech gear that makes working from home easier and you’ll get more done, your family life will improve, and you’ll feel like hopping out of bed every day to get into your perfect work environment.

Setting Up Your Home Office Workspace

First, let’s talk about your workspace. In a perfect world, you’ll have your own home office room resplendent with your favorite art, a large lounge chair, and your exclusive personal things, but most of us don’t have such luxury. Most of us work where we have to.

What you can do is ensure that one area is a dedicated, permanent workspace when you need it to be. Don’t work in the living room. You at least need comfortable office furniture if you’re going to be sitting at a computer all day every day. A large desk, supportive chair, and some storage space for files are prerequisites. Get rid of any clutter every day.

Some people like to include a vision board beside their desks to write notes and post pictures of your long-term dreams and aspirations. It’s just something you can find yourself turning to when you need to stay motivated while working from home.

Noise-Cancelling Headphones

As I’ve gotten older, I find that noise distracts me more. I remember listening to loud music when studying as a teenager but now I prefer a more tranquil noise environment so that I can completely concentrate on my work. This tranquil environment can be particularly elusive when working from home.

Besides closing the windows and barring the door, noise-canceling headphones can be a great option for getting into and staying in your zone. Bose Noise Cancelling Headphones 700 are under $400 and allow you to adjust the active noise-canceling function on a scale from 0 to 10.

For good noise cancellation without that high price tag, Soundcore Life Q20 headphones are around $60.

A Large Monitor and/or Second Monitor

The next thing that will supercharge your home office is a large monitor or a multi-monitor setup. I currently use two 24-inch monitors – one positioned vertically and one horizontally. The vertical setup allows for easy reading of documents when I’m performing research.

Having a second monitor or a single monitor with lots of screen space can really speed up a lot of the work you need to perform, as you don’t constantly need to swap between applications.

If your line of work requires good color reproduction, such as photography or graphic design, you’ll need a monitor with an IPS panel. If you plan to use the monitor for gaming on your downtime, you might want to choose a high refresh rate monitor (144 Hz.) with support for Nvidia G-Sync or AMD Freesync.

Computer parts come and go, but a good monitor might stay with you for over a decade, so it’s worth paying a bit more on your monitor setup at the outset.
Mechanical Keyboard and Mouse
For most entrepreneurs working from home, sitting at the computer typing is the majority of the work. Unless you’re working on photo or video editing, most of the time you don’t need a really beefy computer. What does make life a little sweeter is a good mechanical keyboard and a good quality mouse.

Most keyboards you’ll see in the wild are ‘membrane’ keyboards. These feel somewhat soft and don’t give you much physical feedback on when you’ve fully activated a key.

Mechanical keyboards, on the other hand, have spring-loaded switches that give you tactile feedback. You should find typing for long hours on a mechanical keyboard is more enjoyable and you’ll even be able to type faster after some practice.

A nice mouse and mouse pad just feel better when they fit your hand well. You won’t need to click the buttons so hard, either, so your fingers will thank you in the long run.

Do note that mechanical keyboards tend to be a bit louder than membrane keyboards, so if you’re going to be working beside someone trying to sleep they’re not going to be too happy about a mechanical keyboard coming into the house.
Heaps of other tech out there can make working from home more enjoyable, but focus first on the items that you’ll use all the time and you can’t go wrong.

How to stay motivated when working from home

8 Tips To Stay Motivated While Working From Home

First define motivation for yourself. You would be surprised at the different meanings that are offered online. A good place to start is a look at motivation synonym offered by Thesaurus. You will also see a and

Self Motivation Strategies for Working From Home

When you work in an office, your day might already be planned out with your coworkers giving you social interaction and your boss giving you accountability. Sometimes, the interruptions are significantly higher and/or of a more urgent nature; i.e.: if you work in property management or in healthcare, etc.

However, working from home is much different. How can you get work done without any of this help that you would normally receive from coworkers?

Try these techniques to stay motivated and be productive:
  1. Wake up early. Think of it like this: When you’re working from home, you’re still going to work, but the commute to your desk is much shorter. Set your alarm and make an effort to get up and get ready for an early start.

    • You may find that you’re more productive earlier in the day, as your mind may be sharper.

  1. Get dressed. However tempting it is to work in a pair of comfortable sweatpants or pajamas, you may be more productive in regular clothes.

    • Research has shown that how you dress sends psychological signals, so if you want to get work done, it’s important to dress appropriately.

  1. Have your own workspace. Setting aside a regular space to work sends a signal to your brain to work whenever you’re in your workspace. Plus, having your own workspace will help keep distractions to a minimum.

  1. Create a schedule. A work schedule also helps to motivate you, get you going each morning, and be more productive while you work. With a schedule, you’ll know what to get started on the moment you sit down to work. Then, you can depend on it to guide you throughout the rest of the day.

    • Your schedule will depend on your own job, but, for example, if you were a blogger, you might write in the morning, before editing and posting the content in the afternoon.

  1. Take time to exercise. Set aside some time each day to get some exercise. Regular exercise is good for both your body and mind.

    • Most office jobs are pretty sedentary but working from home may be even worse. After all, you only need to travel a few feet to visit the restroom. With this in mind, it’s important to ensure that you take extra care to look after your physical needs.

  1. Reward yourself. Since you’re working from home, it would be easy to just sit in front of the television all day and not get any work done. But for obvious reasons this is not the best idea. You can bypass such temptations by using rewards to increase productivity.

    • For instance, you could work for two hours straight and then reward yourself with a short, 30-minute episode of your favorite show.

  1. Go outside. Not leaving your house for days on end can negatively impact your mental health. Not only is sunlight good for your health but seeing and interacting with others is important too.

    • Your mood will be uplifted, and you’ll get more work done after a short break for getting out into nature and socializing with others.

  1. Avoid social media. If you find yourself browsing Facebook, Twitter, or Instagram instead of working, you can take steps to avoid these distractions.

    • Try deleting these bookmarks from your browser or installing a plugin that will block you from visiting those sites.

    • Turning off notifications on your smartphone while you work also helps to stop distractions.

Working from home isn’t for everyone, but if you love the freedom of making your own schedule, then you may love it.

Follow these tips and you’ll be able to stay motivated, maintain discipline, and get all of your work done while working from home.

12 Highly Effective Ways to Make Money Online

The internet has fundamentally changed how we make money. If you can imagine a way to make money, you can probably do it online. The video below shows you 12 effective ways to make money online. These methods are not get-rich-quick schemes. Don’t fall for get-rich-quick online schemes. They seldom pan out.

If you can imagine it, you can make money doing it. All that’s required is some hustle.

Side Hustle Ideas

But it’s not that simple, right? The internet has fundamentally changed how we make money. If you can imagine a way to make money, you can probably do it online. Below is a list of effective methods to make money online.

1 - Affiliate Marketing

Essentially, affiliate marketing works like this:
  • You promote an online product or service created by someone else.
  • When someone purchases a product or service through your promotion, you get a commission, or a portion of the sale.

Typically, you promote the online product through a special link that is connected to you. Amazon Affiliates is a very simple example of affiliate marketing.  There are numerous other affiliate networks, such as:
  • ClickBank
  • ShareASale
  • CJ

There are numerous ways to promote the products. You’re only limited by your imagination. Here is what else you can do:
  • Write reviews of products on your blog and include affiliate links
  • Have banner ads on your website promoting the products
  • Post affiliate links on social media
  • Promote products to your email list

If you have any sort of audience, you have the opportunity to make money through affiliate marketing, and it is a great way to make money online because you don’t have to create any products.

Affiliate marketers can make thousands of dollars every month.

2 - Sell Products Online

Before you can sell products online, you’ll need a website on which to sell them. If you don’t want to set up your e-commerce store, you can easily sell products on other platforms.

Popular platforms
  • eBay
  • Amazon
  • Etsy
  • Poshmark
  • Craiglist
  • And many others

If you want to sell products on your website, you’ll need to create one where you can list your products and accept payments.

What sorts of products should you sell online? First, you can sell home-made products you make yourself on sites like Etsy. You can also sell products you’ve already purchased on sites like eBay, Amazon, and Poshmark. Additionally, there is the option of dropshipping products. With dropshipping, you act as a middleman, connecting the buyer and the seller and then taking a portion of the sale. If you’re committed to selling products online, you can have a product manufactured.

Out of all these options, selling products on sites like eBay and Etsy is probably the simplest way to get started making money online.

3 - Sell Your Services as a Freelancer

Freelancing ideas
  • Designer
  • Writer
  • Translator
  • Assistant
  • Bookkeeper
  • SEO Expert
  • Voiceover Artist
  • Audio Engineer

If so, then you can sell your services online. Depending on your skill set and your ability to pitch new clients, you can make a full-time living as a freelancer. To get started as a freelancer, create a portfolio that shows off your work. Set your prices. Reach out to potential clients.

Ways to reach out to potential clients
  • Call them
  • Email them
  • Reach out to them on social platforms like LinkedIn
  • Apply for jobs on sites like Upwork and Thumbtack
  • List your services on platforms like Fiverr

Getting a freelance career started isn’t necessarily the easiest way to make money, but it can be lucrative.

The key to succeeding in the freelance world is persistence.

4 - Become an Online Coach

What sort of coach could you become?

Coaching ideas
  • Health coach
  • Life coach
  • Music/vocal coach
  • Finances coach
  • Executive coach
  • Sales coach

In order to be a coach, you simply need to be able to add a high amount of value to your clients.

Ways to package coaching services
  • 1-on-1 coaching
  • Group coaching
  • A course with accompanying coaching support

You might be thinking, "But I’m not an expert in anything. How could I be a coach?" You simply have to be able to add significant value to your clients. You’ve still acquired expertise through your experience.

These platforms make it easy to provide coaching services:
  • Clarity.fm
  • Savvy.is
  • Coach.me

5 - Create Online Courses

You can create a course around almost any subject and find people to purchase it.

Subject ideas
  • Losing weight
  • Learning to play the piano
  • Painting
  • Singing
  • Creating a budget
  • Investing in stocks
  • Running
  • Tennis

To create a course, you need a platform to distribute it.

Course Building Platforms
  • Teachable
  • Thinkific
  • Kajabi
  • TalentLMS

One way to get a great feel for what a course should look like is to take a few courses yourself.

6 - Create YouTube Videos

How do you make money through YouTube videos? YouTube is a numbers game. When creating YouTube videos, your content will probably fall into one of two categories.

Educational: These videos educate viewers in some way.

Entertainment: These videos are intended to bring a smile to the faces of your viewers.

Once you start producing YouTube videos, you'll also want to consistently grow your channel.

Effective ways to grow your channel
  • Share your videos on social media.
  • Post your videos to your website.
  • Send your videos to your email list.
  • Ask people to subscribe to your channel.

Growing a YouTube channel takes time and consistency.

7 - Write and Sell a Book

Benefits of writing a book
  • It establishes you as a thought leader in your industry.
  • It provides you with a resource to give to clients.
  • It allows you to attract new clients who wouldn’t have heard of you otherwise.

If the thought of writing an entire book intimidates you, there are numerous ways to still get a book written. Get a cover design and have the book printed.

Promote Your Book
  • Post about it on your website.
  • Send an announcement to your email list.
  • Create shareable graphics with quotes from the book (using Canva).
