Update Your Resume


Keep your resume updated with the latest information, ranging from the college activities to other major activities, and remember to include your college results (GPA). Make sure that your resume reflects the new skills you have developed. A good example is the case of a computer programmer who has learned another new language after college graduation. The holiday season is here, and many people start wondering if it’s appropriate to include temporary and seasonal work experience in their resume. This question can be relevant to you whether you’re a recent graduate, unemployed or a college student.
 
There is nothing wrong with taking a freelance, temporary, or seasonal job until you get full-time employment in your field. In fact, this is the best way to gain experience, close gaps in employment, and earn extra cash. Keeping your resume fresh will not only help you to embark on temporary jobs but also new careers as well.
 
You need to tailor your resume to meet the requirements of companies that are hiring seasonal employees. Below are the tips that will help you write a good resume for seasonal employment.
  • Resume presentation - Never give out a folded or rumpled resume. Submit a clean copy that is presentable. You can print it out using white or ivory resume paper on a laser printer.

  • Stick to the design - It’s important to maintain the standard design format when writing your resume. Use a standard font.  Use bullet points to help you break up long paragraphs. Avoid using pictures or graphs.
 
  • Indicate your work experience - Please list all types of employment and experience that are relevant to the job you are applying for. And remember that any work experience can help you secure that seasonal job.

The word communication is a general word in its meaning. It could take on many roles, depending on the use and context. It also has many formats as its delivery mechanism. You can listen to music or watch videos, or you can read a book. Conversations are forms of communications as well.
 
Because of the general aspects of communication, it’s difficult to define communication in the workplace or imagine formulating it into a skill. But, it is possible, and many colleges offer majors in communications, which elevates the field. It’s not necessary to study at a four-year college to enhance your communication skills. It takes basic knowledge and some practice.

Active Listening

The biggest skill you can use to communicate better is Active Listening. People are not natural listeners as they are focused on themselves. It’s how we are wired. We will always put ourselves first. Part of that is a survival mechanism. But, because of our self-serving nature, listening to others is secondary and requires us to put effort into being better listeners.
 
Choosing to apply listening as a skill is a subtle but effective way to communicate. Half of all communication is listening but few of us get any training on doing it well. Fortunately, listening well is relatively simple, and will become automatic once you practice the skills.
 
To increase your ability to listen to others, the next time you are speaking with someone, repeat back everything they say. That may be a little unnerving to them, at first. But, if they look at you with a bewildered look, explain that you are just making sure you understood what they said. Once they get past the awkwardness, they will welcome the exchange.

Using Simple Language

The next step towards better communication is to use simple language. When you want others to understand your meaning, you need to make sure everyone will understand the words. People have different levels of education. Therefore, you want to use the lowest common denominator when speaking to everyone. You should not view this as a means of looking down at others. Your goal is to make sure you are understood. Speaking and writing in basic language is the best way to accomplish this.

Be Considerate

You must consider the feelings of the people with who you're communicating. Even if you are a manager, barking orders at people is one of the least effective ways. Consider everyone’s opinions and needs. Keep people engaged in the communication platform. This way they take ownership in the process. That is a massive benefit for excellent communication. If you’re keen to make more of an impact in your chosen career, it’s important to start with some planning. Ask yourself regularly what you want to accomplish in your professional life and take steps to figure out how you’re going to reach those targets.
 
Here are some quick tips to really help you enhance your career development.

Goal for the Future

When it comes to annual reviews, there’s a lot of focus on setting massive targets for yourself to accomplish sometime in the distant future. While it’s nice to have a good vision of what you want to accomplish eventually, focusing exclusively on long-term goals can make it difficult to maintain motivation.
 
When you’re only making little steps, you’re not as inspired to push forward.
 
Setting smaller, more achievable goals will help to keep you on track. For instance, rather than setting the goal of becoming the manager of your team and waiting to achieve that, start by setting the goal of developing more leadership skills or volunteering for more opportunities.

​Getting a new job is a nerve-wracking experience. There’s the stress of the application process to consider, the headache of the interview, and the agonizing wait while you wonder whether you’ve been accepted.
 
Unfortunately for those who hate the process of getting a new job, the work doesn’t stop after you’ve been offered the role either.
 
During the first thirty or so days at your new job, you’re going to be under the watchful eye of your manager, supervisor, and even the head of the company. These people need to ensure that they’ve made the right decision in hiring you.
 
In some cases, you might even need to prove yourself before the end of a trial period to keep your new role.
 
So, how do you make a good impression during this crucial initial stage?
 
There are a few ways to start.

Start on a Positive Note

​Start positively, with a good attitude. Rush into work each morning before you’re due to be there with a smile on your face and a can-do attitude. Make sure you look the part too. Dress to impress according to the standards of the company and look cleanly pressed before you walk through the front door.
 
If you’re working remotely, you can still try this strategy by sending messages to the group chat for your business first thing in the morning and getting dressed properly just in case you need to drop into any video meetings. 

Get to Know People

​You’re much easier to get rid of in a new company if you maintain your position of being “the new guy”.
